Janet Axten was born in London and moved to St. Ives from Birmingham in 1985. She obtained a First Class Honours Degree in the arts with the Open University, and was the coordinator of the St. Ives Tate Action Group (STAG) which raised £135,000 towards the building of Tate St. Ives which opened in 1993. In the spring of 1998 she began to work for the St. Ives artist Bryan Pearce; organizing exhibitions for him on a regular basis. Her first publication for Bryan was ’Bryan Pearce: The Artist and his Work’ published by Sansom and Company in 1999.
